Overview

Osteria Ai Assassini, nestled in the vibrant heart of Venice at Rio Terrà dei Assassini, 3695, offers a dining experience that blends authentic Italian flavors with a warm, inviting atmosphere. This charming restaurant draws both locals and travelers seeking genuine Venetian cuisine with a modern twist. Its location, slightly tucked away from the busy tourist trails, gives it an intimate and almost secretive appeal, perfect for those who appreciate culinary craftsmanship in a relaxed setting.

The menu stands out through its exquisite seafood options and rich, home-made pasta dishes. Noteworthy highlights include the delicate Orata, the luxurious home-made tagliolini infused with mountain butter and the elusive aroma of white truffle, and expertly prepared gnocchis served with squid ink, octopus, and fresh asparagus. Each plate is a testament to the restaurant’s dedication to quality ingredients and refined preparation techniques. The tagliatelle al nero di seppia further exemplifies their mastery of Venetian seafood cuisine, presenting bold flavors with elegance and balance.

Guests frequently praise the desserts, particularly the tiramisù and the raspberry crostata, both offering a perfect sweet finale to a rich meal. Desserts here are crafted with the same care as the main courses, balancing sweetness and texture beautifully. The aperitivo Tintoretto and Tintoleto cocktails capture the Venetian spirit with authentic, refreshing tastes, making starters or evenings even more memorable.

Atmosphere plays an essential role in the Osteria Ai Assassini experience. The interior merges rustic charm with subtle modern touches, enhanced by a curated selection of jazz records played on a vintage turntable, creating a warm and inviting soundtrack that complements the culinary scene. The outdoor dining option allows guests to enjoy Venice’s ambiance, balancing lively street views with a cozy dining setup. This flexibility appeals both to intimate diners and groups who appreciate ambiance as much as food.

The service consistently receives high marks for its attentiveness and friendliness. Staff members, like Maurice, exemplify professional warmth, often sharing passionate insights about dishes and wine selections, fostering a personalized atmosphere. Multilingual servers enhance accessibility for international guests, making it a welcoming spot for tourists and locals alike. While not always available without booking, the willingness to accommodate walk-in guests when possible shows a commitment to great hospitality.

Targeting food lovers who seek authentic, thoughtfully-prepared Venetian cuisine, Osteria Ai Assassini caters well to those who value quality and atmosphere over speed or budget dining. It suits visitors eager to explore classic yet innovative Italian fare in a setting that feels both timeless and vibrant. From couples to groups and solo travelers with a palate for seafood and pasta, the restaurant offers a memorable Venetian culinary journey.

In summary, Osteria Ai Assassini stands out as a hidden gem in Venice’s competitive dining scene. We came to this restaurant twice and loved the food and the atmosphere. The seafood dishes are delicious, especially the fish lasagna (a special). Excellent selection of wines by the glass. Service is friendly and professional. The atmosphere: they play jazz records on a turntable and they have a good sound system. This is my favorite restaurant in Venice.

The staff were really great. We didn't book a reservation but they gave us a table for an hour and a half until the next booking was due. The table seemed to me to be the best seat in the house so we were happy. The rabbit Ragu was beautiful and quite rich. I would highly recommend it. The staff were very polite and attentive and funny. This has been our favourite restaurant in Venice so far. Definitely book in advance if you are planning to go.

A solid 4.5 stars. The service was overall lovely (and the waiter spoke many languages!), just as the atmosphere. We received a small amouse bouche that was delicious. The pumpkin flan was perfection. All the meals were very good. Just be prepared to pay a lot, it‘s expensive. We’ve got 2 critic points: 1) the tuna could use a little more salt. 2) after eating we almost disappeared for the service crew.

I booked this restaurant at the last minute and I was so glad that I did! We dined for lunch and the server was very lovely and passionate about the food describing what made the dish or drink special. We had lamb chops and they were the most wonderful I have ever tasted! I also adore the Bellinis. They were authentic and delicious. Best Bellini I had in Venice. The tiramisu was delicious as well, my partner said he loved their tiramisu the best out of all the places we tried. We loved it so much we went back the next day for lunch again. This is truly a hidden gem in Venice on a street that many people probably overlook. Definitely try out this charming restaurant if you like authentic good food. You won’t be disappointed. :)

We had dinner at Osteria Ai Assassini which was recommended by an Italian acquaintance. We were attended by Maurice. We did not make any reservations but the serving staff was able to offer us an outdoor dining which was really nice. The food we ordered were really good. The ravioli stuffed with sea bass and asparagus were exquisite. Their raspberry tart were also truly divine. The service rendered by Maurice were really warm and friendly. We had a truly great dining experience. Recommended.

Loved the fish lasagna, which is something I've never had before and was skeptical about. Good wine list too. Warm and friendly service. Thanks for a nice evening.
